Where to find the Pistol
The Pistol is obtained in Chapter 2 in the Valley of Ashes, during the early route of An Unheard Farewell. Start the quest by finding the toppled wagon where the Adjudant Sous-Officier is hiding and speaking with him.
From the officer’s position, work your way below to the detached main wagon. The Pistol is inside that wagon. IGN also describes the weapon as being inside a wagon after the second Lantern. The consistent landmark is the detached main wagon below the officer/second-Lantern area, not the first broken carriage you pass.
Route checkpoints
- Reach the Chapter 2 Lantern by the carriages and find the toppled wagon.
- Speak with the Adjudant Sous-Officier and begin An Unheard Farewell.
- Follow the wooden-beam path and kill the Risen Lancer with Fire.
- Continue past the fallen carriages and Risen Grenadier.
- Use the elevator/detached-wagon route and search the main wagon for the Pistol.
If you reach the officer’s final truth-or-lie choice without the firearm, you missed the wagon pickup rather than the quest reward.
Why the detour matters
The Pistol has the largest ammunition reserve among the firearms and becomes the primary tool for:
- breaking Nephtoglobin weak points;
- shooting explosive packs;
- dealing with Spewers and Swarm Mothers;
- damaging exposed boss limbs while conserving other resources.
It is not always the highest-damage gun, but it is the most consistent one to carry while exploring.
Upgrade directions
Its level-5 Resourcefulness upgrade can return a round after a melee hit on a shot enemy. Ruthlessness instead boosts the next melee hit. Choose according to whether you are using the gun to sustain repeated weak-point pressure or to set up a melee burst.
Do not spend rare upgrade materials simply because the Pistol is available early. Decide whether it is the firearm you will take through the completion checklist. The best weapon guide compares it with the Blunderbuss and Musket.
Pistol versus quest reward
The Pistol is found during the An Unheard Farewell route. The final choice instead awards Sleight of Hand plus either an Epic Catalyst Clot or Remnant’s Return. The full quest guide explains both endings so you do not confuse the wagon weapon with the officer’s reward.
