How Ambers work
Ambers are slotted passive effects. You begin with limited locked slots and unlock more as you progress. An Amber works only while equipped, so the system is about swapping for the current area or boss, not simply collecting the highest rarity.
Duplicate pickups upgrade the same Amber’s tier and improve its effect. IGN’s location guide lists 29 unique Ambers. PowerPyx states that 15 are upgradeable to level 3 and that the related trophy requires 28 of the 29 unique Ambers rather than duplicates.
Useful Ambers by problem
| Amber | Effect | Key acquisition or use |
|---|---|---|
| Duellist’s Focus | Increases the melee parry window | Chapter 1 Onslaught Arch, after returning with the Pistol; the clearest parry-training choice |
| Bountiful Harvest | Restores Health when collecting Nephtoglobin Remnants | Reward from The Scarecrow; strong Transmutation or Claymore sustain |
| Perfectionism | Boosts damage while at full health | Chapter 2 Demolished Path, Chapter 4 Old Mine, Chapter 5 Under the Bridge |
| Volatile End | Makes weak-point shots explode | Chapter 3 Fields; natural fit for a gun-and-sword setup |
| Dilated Moment | Slows time while aiming, at the cost of Endurance and firearm damage | Chapter 5 Under the Bridge |
| Warrior’s Fury | Melee/Transmutation package piece | Chapter 3 Marketplace, Chapter 6 Silent Cannons, Chapter 9 Lift Shaft |
| Lunatic’s Grasp | Melee/Transmutation package piece | Chapter 4 Weeping Ledge, Chapter 7 Market Square, Chapter 9 Lift Shaft |
| Potent Concoction | Melee/Transmutation package piece | Chapter 2 Quarry, Chapter 7 Island of Whispers, Chapter 10 Ramparts |
Build packages
For melee and Transmutation builds, Warrior’s Fury, Lunatic’s Grasp, Potent Concoction, Equivalent Exchange, and Bountiful Harvest form a strong sustain package. The reported duplicate locations above make it possible to improve several pieces while following the main route, but you do not need to max every one before finishing the campaign.
Gun-and-sword setups get more value from Volatile End because every weak-point hit becomes area pressure. Dilated Moment asks for a real trade: slower time while aiming is useful for exposed weak points, but the Endurance and firearm-damage penalties punish a build that depends on sustained shooting.
Defensive players can use Duellist’s Focus as training wheels and remove it later once the parry window feels stable. Do not treat that as wasted progress; a wider window can help you learn a boss without changing weapons.
Do not chase every duplicate first
Campaign progression and one copy of each useful Amber matter more than maxing a single low-impact passive. The 28/29 unique-Amber trophy also means duplicates do not replace missing pickups. Use free roam after the credits for cleanup and reserve demanding backtracking for Ambers that solve a build problem you actually have.
The parry guide covers Duellist’s Focus in combat context, and the trophy roadmap explains the 28-of-29 requirement.
